Leonidion and its valley is a truly blessed land. It produces citrus fruits, olives, wine, and many vegetables. The king of vegetables grown here is the famous Tsakonian eggplant. The European Union has given it a Protected Designation of Origin Product. It travels to the markets of the world as the “Tsakonian Eggplant of Leonidion”. It is much sweeter than the common eggplant, due to the special composition of the soil. Its fruit has a deep purple color with lighter streaks.

Its cultivation began in Tsakonia around the 12th century A.D. and it thrived like nowhere else in the world. The fine eggplant, a source of abundant beneficial nutritional elements, is truly an elixir of long life. Eggplant combats free radicals, it has antioxidant properties, it protects brain activity and helps in weight loss. This is a gift of nature!
