Man glaubt, das das Bildnis der Jungfrau Maria, das in Elona aufbewahrt wird, eines der 70 ist, welches von Apostel Lukas gezeichnet wurde. In den Sch\u00e4tzen des Klosters befinden sich viele heilige Relikte, Erbst\u00fccke, einschliesslich Widmungen und Weihgaben von vielen Menschen, denen ein Wunder widerfahren ist.<\/p>\n<p>Die Gr\u00fcnder und ersten M\u00f6nche der Abtei waren Kallinikos und Dositheos, die von den T\u00fcrken ermordet wurden. Das Kloster wurde im 16. Jahrhundert erbaut, w\u00e4hrend die Kirche 1809 und der Glockenturm 1831 errichtet wurde. Der Altarraum der Kirche wurde aussergew\u00f6hnlich fein verarbeitet, ein wunderbares Beispiel von religi\u00f6ser Kunst. Die Ikonen am Altar sind Kunstst\u00fccke grossartiger Maler. Das Kloster wurde unter T\u00fcrkischer Herrschaft viele Male in Brand gesteckt und gepl\u00fcndert. Es spielte, wie auch viele andere Kl\u00f6ster, in der Revolution von 1821 eine wichtige Rolle.<\/p>\n<p>Die Lage des Klosters raubt einem den Atem. Es scheint, als ob es auf wundersame Weise an den Felsen aufgeh\u00e4ngt ist und so schwebt es \u00fcber dem Chaos. Von dort oben hat man einen atemberaubenden Ausblick \u00fcber Schlucht, die von dem Daphnonas Fluss geformt wurde.
