Architectural History

Leonidion is a traditional town with historical preserved monuments, mansions and towers, built even before 18th century, as well as neoclassical buildings of the mid of 19th century. Fortunately, plenty of buildings have been preserved over time. Nowadays three of the most glorious and magnificent pre-revolutionary Peloponnesian monuments are located in Leonidion. They give visitor a first impression of the Tsakonian architecture. Leonidion gained the status of a traditional settlement, which allowed and allows it to preserve the traditional character of its architecture. This is fully supported by its residents wishing to see their hometown in its historical beauty.
