Celebration of Eggplant
In summer, during the last 10 days of August, the eggplant is celebrated at the seaport of Plaka in Leonidion. Big variety of dishes based on the eggplant are prepared by both amateur and professional chefs. Each year a judging committee selects and awards prizes for the best recipes.
The sweet Greek summer attracts a great number of people, who flock to this great celebration of nature. Plaka is literally jam-packed every August and every year the dishes are richer and more creative!
Do not forget to taste “melitzanaki”. A unique sweet preserve is also made out of small eggplants. Its dreamy color invokes our childhood memories …
